St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara

St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara was born in Kerala in 1805; He was ordained priest in 1829. He was a multifaceted personality, a pioneer in many fields of activities.

In the first place he was a man of God. A Yogi in the true traditions of Indian. His life was a blend of Karmayoga, Jnanayoga and Bhaktiyoga. He was the inspiration behind the founding of the first indigenous congregation for women, Congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC). St. Teresa's Convent School is a unit of it.

He died on January 3, 1871, ager a life of great innocence. He was a social reformer, an educationist, a writer and a mystic. He is remembered as a great pioneer and champion of value oriented education. He is the pride not only of Kerala but of the entire world.

He could declare before his death that he had never lost the Baptismal grace, He was exercising himself in the practice of all virtues, especially simplicity of heart, living faith, obedience and devotion to Jesus in the Bl. Sacrament, to mother Mary and to St. Teresa.
